Kinda. But if you wanna get that general there's basically 3 operating systems: windows, Mac, and Linux.

A lot of people use the first 2 and they are the "safe" choice but the analogy breaks down after that for me.

For me windows and Mac are like having an un modified car. They pretty much work out of the box with few issues. Maybe a few mods like exhaust or intake to personalize a little. Body kit or custom paint job to make things pretty.

Linux is like the extreme modified car or rat rod. It's not for everyone. Requires some issues to be worked out at times. Usually built for the owners' desires in mind. May be appreciated by many or so custom they'll never sell it on CL because it only suits one person's tastes.
